Outstanding Scholar student captures history of Assumption College

Ever wonder how the University of Windsor came to be? UWindsor Outstanding Scholars student Devon Fraser has captured the unique history with her capstone research project, Assumption College: Through the Decades.

Fraser, a history major and recent graduate, was part of the Outstanding Scholars program, which pairs high-achieving students with faculty and pays them to complete research outside class.

Provost announces new University Librarian

Selinda Berg

Selinda Berg will take on the role of university librarian effective July 1, provost Douglas Kneale announced Thursday.

Since 2016, Dr. Berg has been associate university librarian at the Leddy Library, where she holds the primary portfolio for faculty and academic affairs and departmental portfolios for systems and information services.

Historic community newspapers find home in Archives & Special Collections

When Postmedia suddenly closed 15 Canadian community newspapers in May of last year, five local weekly papers were removed from Windsor-Essex communities: the Kingsville Reporter, the Lakeshore News, the LaSalle Post, the Tecumseh Shoreline Week, and the Tilbury Times.

Newspaper profitability has been in decline for decades, but the media company, like other businesses, had been hit hard by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and suffered further declines in revenue.

Geospatial analyst creates map application to locate COVID-19 vaccine pharmacies

Leddy Library’s geospatial data analyst, Carina Luo, is helping the Windsor-Essex residents identify vaccine pharmacies in their community.

Windsor-Essex is one of three regions in the province where people aged 60 to 64 can book an appointment with participating pharmacies to receive the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Luo, who provides geospatial services to the campus community through the Academic Data Centre at Leddy Library, wanted to help the COVID-19 efforts by identifying the location of vaccine pharmacies in Windsor-Essex.

Academic Data Centre launches online workshops for research data

Students and researchers seeking to learn more about applying data and statistical analysis to their research can now take advantage of a series of research data online workshops.

Librarians and data experts at the Leddy Library’s Academic Data Centre have curated a total of 12 workshops designed to introduce students to both geospatial and numeric datasets using geographic information systems and statistical applications as well as research data management support.
