About the Course Resources Service

What is the Course Resources Lists?

Course Readings are comprised of high demand print, digital and online materials selected by instructors for use by students registered in specific courses at the University of Windsor.

Course Resource Lists consist of:

  • Commercially published text books;
  • Courseware packages;
  • Library-owned books, journal volumes and other materials;
  • Instructor-owned books;
  • Materials in which the instructor holds copyright (i.e. lecture notes, PPT);

  • Links to e-journals and e-books licensed by the Library;
  • Links to websites, provided links are not prohibited and also provided the content is not being made available without the consent of the copyright owner;
    • This could include videos, blogs, government websites, or any applicable web resource.
  • Digital copies of materials in which the instructor holds copyright (i.e. lecture notes, PPT slides);
  • Digital copies of copyrighted materials;

How can digital copies of copyrighted materials be made available?

Before making the decision to copy from protected sources, instructors are strongly encouraged to work with their Liaison Librarians to identify alternative sources for classroom instruction from the vast amount of digital content available through library subscriptions, Creative Commons licenses, Open Access websites or materials not under copyright protection (public domain). See alternative online resources.

There are two options:

  1. Copies/scans can be made under specific statutory provisions and in accordance with the University of Windsor Fair Dealing Policy and the Fair Dealing Copying Guidelines for Faculty & Staff;
  2. With permission of the copyright holder (see Leddy Library Copyright Clearance Service)

Where are Print & Physical Materials made Available?

The collection is at the Information Desk , Main Floor, Leddy Library (519.253.3000 x3402).

Are there limits to the number of physical items that can be placed at the Information Desk in the Leddy Library?

Due to space constraints and processing demands, a limit of 40 items per course is in place. Under exceptional circumstances, appeals to exceed this limit may be submitted to Dave Johnston, Head, Access Services.

What about if the Library doesn't own the materials?

It's possible to place a personal copy of any commercially produced item (book, video, music CD). Bring any personal copies you wish to place on reserve to the Information Desk.

The Leddy Library will also attempt to order books or other materials needed. Please contact the liaison librarian for your department well in advance of when the item is needed to inquire about ordering materials that the Library does not own.
