ORCID Help Guide Now Available

To support our UWindsor community in using the researcher identifier ORCID, Leddy Library has recently published an ORCID Help Guide! In this guide, you will learn what an ORCID iD is, why you should have one, how to create and populate your profile, and more about ORCID at UWindsor.

ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a free, unique, persistent identifier that individuals use to share their research, scholarship, and innovation activities. Think of ORCID as a portable, online CV. All those who sign up for ORCID are given a 16-digit number with which to identify. That 16-digit number is attached to a profile page containing the scholars’ biographical information, educational experience, professional activities, funding information, and scholarly works.

Having an ORCID increases the visibility and discoverability of your scholarly activities alongside ensuring that you are credited for all your professional work. Increasingly, ORCID iD’s are being integrated into the broader research lifecycle; some organizations ask for a peer reviewer’s ORCID iD in order to recognize those who are doing this work, and many journals now require authors to have ORCID iD’s listed on their publications.

At Leddy Library, we are here to help you use ORCID in whichever capacity you choose to. Do you require assistance populating your profile? Would you like an ORCID workshop conducted for your students, colleagues, or fellow UWindsor community members? Are you interested in knowing more about the value and importance of ORCID, both in the Canadian research landscape and beyond? Please reach out to us at scholarship@uwindsor.ca for all this and more!
