The University of Windsor’s Black Scholars Institute will host Between Borders and Blackness: An Intimate Evening of Poetry and Conversation on Monday, November 24th, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hatch Studio Theatre in the Jackman Dramatic Art Centre.
This special event will feature Leddy Library’s resident Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Vida Cross, whose work explores identity, culture, and community across borders. Cross brings a unique perspective on the historic and ongoing connections between Windsor and Detroit, reflecting on how these ties shape personal and collective identities.
Vida Cross will join several other poets:
- Nandi Comer, 2023 Poet Laureate of Michigan, 2025-2026 Jay C. and Ruth Halls Poetry Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, and co-Director of Detroit Lit
- Paulina O’Kieffe-Anthony, a Toronto/Windsor-based award-winning poet and educator
- Teajai Travis, Windsor’s inaugural Multicultural Community Storyteller
Admission is free and open to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. Learn more, and register, on the event page.
