Interesting. If you have a profile on Google Scholar, the service will match your past research record with new research. Essentially, it's a recommended reading service.
You can't add your research into a your citation profile if a GoogleBot can't find your work under your name (which is a little problematic because I changed my name some years ago and the work I've done under it doesn't exist in my current profile).
All the more reason to place your research into an institutional repository where the GoogleScholar Bot loves to visit.
