Creative Commons Research Guide Now Available

Happy New Year UWindsor!

The new year also brings a new resource from the Leddy Library. We are happy to share a new Research Guide with our community, all about Creative Commons licenses.

Would you like to know what Creative Commons licenses are? Do you know what they are, but have a burning question about them you’d like answered? The new guide aims to address just those questions. Leddy's Creative Commons Licenses guide provides information to researchers and authors interested in Creative Commons licensing as a means to making their scholarship open access.

Creative Commons licenses apply to a variety of open access scholarly works including journal articles, monographs, course materials, images, videos, and much more. Their purpose, according to the Creative Commons organization itself, is to “empower people to grow and sustain the thriving commons of shared knowledge and culture we need to address the world’s most pressing challenges and create a brighter future for all” (para. 1). Through the facilitation of better sharing, Creative Commons licenses make it easier for scholarship to propagate and for scholars to build upon existing work.
