This guide provides information to researchers and authors interested in Creative Commons licensing as a means to make their scholarship Open Access.
What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sharing of knowledge and culture (What we do, n.d.). They help creators obtain free licenses for their work to be shared, altered, and used by others in a way that is consistent with copyright and fair dealing laws. This is achieved through Creative Commons Licenses. These licenses allow you, the creator of the work, to decide how your work is used, while guaranteeing that you are credited. There are 6 licenses to choose from, all of which require attribution and differ in their license terms.
