Over the past months, Leddy Library staff and collections librarians have been connecting with faculty and staff across campus to identify books and monographs – in print and electronic -- by University of Windsor authors. Having gathered nearly 600 items from virtually all faculties and schools across campus, Leddy Library will be launching two initiatives to celebrate UWindsor’s research output in book and monograph form. The first initiative is a digital collection of faculty, emeritus faculty, and staff publications which faculties and departments can link to on their websites. The second is shelving near the new Graduate Student Society Study Commons where a display of faculty and staff publications can be viewed.
While preserving, promoting, and disseminating University of Windsor faculty’s articles, book chapters, and reports has been possible digitally through our Scholarship at UWindsor institutional research repository for over ten years, collecting and sharing book and monograph works has proved more challenging.
“This project has shown us the tremendous output from across campus in book and monograph form,” said Roger Reka, Head of Collections and Licensing Services. “Highlighting this research output in our catalogue and assembling these books into one space,” he continued, “allows us to see the breadth and depth of our faculty and staff’s research output in book and monograph form. It’s a very impressive collection.”
The UWindsor Faculty and Staff Book and Monograph project is part of a broader Collections and Licensing unit initiative to preserve and build several “Collections of Record” that are unique to the University of Windsor and help to document the history, culture, environment, and economy of the Windsor Essex and Chatham Kent region. “We are very excited about these Collections of Record,” continued Reka, “as they allow Leddy Library to play an active and vital role in documenting and preserving research and scholarship about our region.” More information about these Collections of Record will be forthcoming.
Current University of Windsor staff, faculty and emeritus faculty are urged to let the Collection Development team know (LibraryCollections@uwindsor.ca) about any missing, new, or forthcoming books so that they may be considered for inclusion. Self-published works are generally not collected by Leddy Library. Faculty are also encouraged to check and update their publications at Scholarship at UWindsor and contact the Research and Publishing Services Unit (LibraryResearch@uwindsor.ca) with any questions.
