Over the past year, the Bamboo AI Interest Group has grown into a vibrant forum for librarians and library staff to learn about emerging AI technologies, share practical experiences, and discuss the opportunities and challenges AI presents for libraries and scholarly communication. Through presentations, demonstrations, discussion sessions, and webinars, participants have explored topics ranging from generative AI tools and research workflows to ethical considerations, policy development, and AI-enhanced library services.
The group's growth has been particularly encouraging. Recent Bamboo sessions have attracted approximately one-third of the University's librarians and library staff, reflecting strong interest in understanding and applying AI in professional practice. This high level of engagement has fostered a dynamic environment for peer learning, experimentation, and knowledge sharing.
Building on this momentum, Bamboo is expanding its reach beyond the library. Beginning in October, the group will broaden participation to include faculty, staff, and students from across the University. Initial outreach will focus on selected faculty members and students in the Faculty of Education, creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary conversations about the use of AI in teaching, learning, research, and knowledge creation.
As AI technologies continue to evolve, Bamboo remains committed to promoting informed, thoughtful, and collaborative engagement with these tools. By bringing together colleagues from across the University to learn, experiment, and share experiences, the group continues to embody its original vision: growing knowledge collectively while remaining adaptable, resilient, and rooted in community.
Faculty, staff, and students interested in exploring the opportunities and implications of AI in their own work and studies are welcome to join future Bamboo sessions and contribute to this growing community of practice.
