Responsibilities
There are responsibilities for both the Leddy Library and the book authors, which will be articulated in a Memorandum of Understanding.- What we do
The Leddy Library:
- Provide access to the shared platform for a new OA books
- Provide overview training for how to use the platform and workflow options
- Leddy’s Scholarly Communication Librarian will work with the author(s) to establish the new title and advise on best practices
- We can help with requesting E-ISBN registration, via Library & Archives Canada
- Issue Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) for your book, via CrossRef, which we subscribe to
- We can register your new work in the Directory of Open Access Books
- We ensure that digital books are harvested globally to other search engines and open access aggregators, such as Google and OpenAire
- Ensure long-term preservation of the digital content and public access via OMP via OCUL’s Ontario Library Research Cloud
- What authors are responsible for
Book authors:
- Ideation, structure, content, indexing (if desired)
- Marketing and publicity for the work amongst your academic community
- Illustrations, images, text layout
- Leddy Library needs to be acknowledged as a partner in the publication of the book, in acknowledgements or front matter
- The system produces works in Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF)
