Current Newspapers at Leddy Library

Leddy Library subscribes to the print editions of The Globe & Mail and The Windsor Star, which arrive daily. The current editions are available for reading in the library.

Leddy Library also subscribes to a number of resources that provide access to current newspapers, that otherwise would be behind paywalls. Most of these titles are indexed in Omni, meaning that you can search Omni for the newspaper titles or the articles to discover the news. These resources provide access to the text content of the newspapers and may lack supporting imagery or other materials that would be found on the newspaper’s website. Leddy’s current newspaper resources are:
  • Eureka (Newscan) - Eureka, formerly known as Newscan, offers full-text access to more than 8,000 general and specialized news sources covering a variety of fields, including politics, economy, current world issues, environment, health, and arts and culture. Includes newspapers as well as transcripts of television and radio news programs including CBC News, The National, Saturday Report, Canada A, and CTV News.
  • Canadian Newsstream – full text of 300 Canadian newspapers including The Windsor Star and The Globe and Mail. The database includes full access to the articles, column, editorials, and features published in each newspaper. Database content is updated daily following a seven-day embargo period.
  • Canadian Periodical Index: CPIQ – millions of articles from a list of Canadian and international journals, magazines, and reference content with a Canadian focus. Includes Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail; Maclean’s weekly magazine; Canadian News Facts; and reference materials, such as the Canadian Parliamentary Guide and Canadian Newsmakers. Canadian Periodicals Index Quarterly contains 11,973,520 articles with regular updates. All articles have been published between 1980 and present.
  • Factivia – a business information source produced by Dow Jones. It provides international coverage of major newspapers, newswires, business magazines, and radio/television transcripts. Content is updated continuously, 24 hours a day, with a 35-year archive of premium news.
  • ProQuest Recent Newspapers: Windsor Star (2011 – Present) – Access and explore digital scans of print issues of the Windsor Star, starting from 2011. New issues are added after 2 weeks. This resource picks up from the ProQuest Historical Newspapers resource.
  • Anishinabek News – a tabloid-format newspaper designed to foster pride and share knowledge about Anishinabek Nation current affairs, culture, political objectives, and accomplishments.
  • Mazina’igan – a chronicle of the Lake Superior Ojibwe published by the Great Lakes Indian Fish Wildlife Commission
  • Windspeaker (available through Ammsa.com) – Canada’s first and only provider of national Indigenous news, information, and opinion, owned and operated by the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta, an Indigenous communications society dedicated to serving the news and information needs of Indigenous people throughout Canada.
  • Latin America News Digest – provides a wide spectrum of coverage of news and commentary, produced by Latin Americans. It aggregates the news of the Latin American media, and publishes 41 weekly issues and two expanded, monthly issues covering July and December.
