Welcome to the Humanities Research Group 2015-2016 Season! We are so excited for the first lecture of {WHY?] h[U]manities week.

What: Visual Entanglements: Photography in Comics, a lecture by Dr. Nancy Pedri of Memorial University.
Where: Hoffman Auditorium, Iona College, University of Windsor
When: Tuesday, September 15 at 4pm

In this talk, Dr. Nancy Pedri will engage in a critical conversation of a visual feature that is becoming very common in comics: the use of photographs. She will set out to ask how the mixing of photography and cartooning conveys information, tells stories, and addresses presumed truths of each type of image.

This talk is free and open to the public! Please share widely.

Nancy Pedri, Professor of English at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializes in word-and-image studies, photography in contemporary literature, and comics studies. She has published widely in the field, edited a collection of essays devoted to photography in comics (Image & Narrative), and won an award for her co-authored article “Focalization in Graphic Narrative” (Narrative).
