Ontario has a rich history of black publishing. Three significant publications are available through the Abolitionist Newspapers of the 1850s portal: The Voice of the Fugitive; The Provincial Freeman, and The True Royalist and Weekly Intelligencer (pro-abolitionist, white newspaper).

Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository, is a bilingual, multi-disciplinary, secure, Canadian research data repository, supported by academic libraries and research institutions across Canada. Borealis supports open discovery, management, sharing, and preservation of Canadian research data.

Borealis is available to UWindsor researchers as an archive for their datasets. Some key features:
  • This is a secure environment that conforms to industry best practices for maintaining data integrity and longevity.
  • Data owners can retain complete control over who can access their data. Specific datasets can be made freely available, available only on request, or restricted to only certain IPs, to an individual account(s) or to specific groups.
  • Borealis is widely used by academic institutions in Canada and the U.S. and datasets are indexed and searchable across institutions.
  • Borealis is most suited for datasets up to 2GB.

<odesi> is a digital repository for social science data, including polling data. It is a web-based data exploration, extraction and analysis tool that uses the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) social science data standard. <odesi> provides researchers the ability to search for survey questions (variables) across thousands of datasets. There are both microdata and aggregate data available, in a range of formats.

It includes datasets from Statistics Canada, Gallup Canada and other polling companies, and public-domain files such as the Canadian National Election Surveys and selected files from the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).
