Leddy Library to host online lecture for Open Access Week

Open Access Week Online Lecture

Leddy Library is hosting an online lecture to celebrate International Open Access Week.

The week runs Oct. 25 to 31 and is an opportunity for researchers around the world to learn about the benefits of Open Access, share their experiences with colleagues, and help improve access to scholarship and research around the world.

The lecture taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 26, will discuss how the partnerships between Coalition Publica, libraries, and scholarly journals are transforming the availability of original scholarship produced in Canada.

“Coalition Publica, the partnership between Érudit and the Public Knowledge Project, have been working libraries and journals to advance digital scholarly publishing and open-access dissemination,” says scholarly communications librarian, Pascal Calarco. “Our lecture will bring together scholars, editors, and librarians to discuss how digital scholarly publishing infrastructure and services are making Open Access scholarship more accessible.”

Open Access scholarship provides digital resources available online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. It allows researchers and scholars to increase research visibility.

“Making scholarship available for free increases its impact and visibility, and ensures more people can benefit from it,” Calarco says.

The library publishes several Open Access journals and books, including Informal Logic, Collected Essays on Teaching and LearningWindsor Studies in Argumentation, the Windsor Yearbook of Access to Justice, The Windsor Review, and most recently added The Journal of Canadian Baseball.

It also hosts Scholarship at UWindsor, an institutional repository home to thousands of publications from faculty members and students at the University of Windsor. The repository is optimized for discovery in Google Scholar and helps showcase scholars and their work to the world.

The lecture is free and will take place online Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. (Eastern Time).

This is one of many events during Open Access Week, available through the library’s Open Access Week 2021 site.
