Exhibit to celebrate donation of political cartoons

An extensive collection of more than 2,600 political cartoons by well-known social commentator Mike Graston has been donated to the University of Windsor’s Archives and Special Collections housed in Leddy Library.

Graston, whose regular contributions to the editorial pages of the Windsor Star spanned three and half decades, presented a unique look at local, provincial, national, and international events and the individuals who shaped them.

To recognize the acquisition, the public is invited to a free exhibition, Mike Graston’s Editorial Cartoons, 1981-2016: History as it Happened, which will open Wednesday at the University of Windsor’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA) building, the former Windsor Armouries building, 37 University Ave. E.

University archivist Sarah Glassford says access to the collection will support University of Windsor teaching and research.

“Editorial cartoons like these manage to say a lot in a single panel. As a distilled form of political and social commentary they offer valuable insights into how contemporaries understood history as it was unfolding,” she says.

“By donating his work to the archives, Mike Graston has ensured it will continue to have an impact for years to come.”

The exhibit will be free and open to the public on the following dates:
