Description

The Environment and Climate Change Canada's (ECCC) Climate Data website is a gateway to information on historical weather, climate normals, historical radar, almanac averages and extremes, and engineering climate data for numerous locations across Canada. Historical weather data includes temperature, precipitation, rain, snow, snow on ground, wind speed and direction, heating and cooling degree days, visibility, humidex, wind chill and relative humidity in Canada. You can search and obtain historical weather data for a particular place and period of time on the ECCC’s webpage: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/historical_data/search_historic_data_e.html.
Or you can use the Canadian Centre for Climate Services (CCCS) website’s climate data extraction tool to access a series of ECCC’s climate datasets including future climate simulations (gridded data), Canadian Seasonal to Inter-annual Prediction System, Canadian Seasonal to Inter-annual Prediction System, Changes in temperature and precipitation (gridded data), Precipitation estimates (gridded data), climate normals 1981-2010, monthly climate summaries and daily climate data. Although the CCCS also provides a Datamart and application program interfaces (API) for bulk-downloading those data, it is much easier to use the R package “weathercan” to download historical weather data for multiple stations across multiple years. You can find a tutorial " Bulk download the Environment and Climate Change Canada’s climate data using the weathercan package in R" on our workshops and tutorials page.
