The online ornithology resource Birds of North America from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology is changing and will be replaced by the new Birds of the World platform (accessible now).
What's changed?
This development stems from the Cornell Lab's acquisition of digital rights to the Handbook of Birds of the World. The new Birds of the World platform contains all the content from the existing Birds of North America website, along with new material from Neotropical Birds, Handbook of Birds of the World (HBW Alive), and Bird Families of the World, and multimedia records from the Macaulay Library and eBird.
The underlying architecture of the website has been replaced, which the publisher claims makes the platform faster. The interface is mostly unchanged.
Access to the platforms
University of Windsor users can access Birds of the World now, and access to the old Birds of North America platform will remain until the end of April. Please feel free to update your links to this resource (led.uwindsor.ca/birds-world). Old links will redirect to the new platform after April.
