Geospatial Data: Land Cover & Land Use of Canada

Canada Land Inventory (CLI)

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, 1965-1978

The GIS coverage classifies land based on their capability for use in agriculture, forestry, recreation, and wildlife; and by their land use for the years 1965-1978. This collection is available at either 1: 50 000, 1:250 000, 1:1000 000 scales, showing for each sector province/region wide capability. Although the information is old, and better information is available for some areas as part of more recent soil surveys, the interpretations are still largely valid, and many jurisdictions still use them for land use planning purposes.
