Geospatial Data: Other Provinces/Territories

The following list outlines the main sources of geospatial data for other provinces and territories (besides Ontario). More data for these areas may be available in the Canada sections. Think about which government organizations might have created the data you are looking for, and start with their website's search box.

Alberta

• AltaLIS:  GIS and CAD data for Alberta through a non-profit organization’s clearinghouse. Themes include property, base maps and terrain information. Some datasets are free.

• Calgary Public Data Catalogue: the City of Calgary’s open data portal

• Edmonton Open Data Portal: the City of Edmonton’s open data portal

• Alberta Geological Survey: GIS data from the Alberta Geological Survey  

British Columbia

• City of Vancouver Open Data

• DataBC: BC Provincial Government Data Catalogue. Uncheck the box on the right for ‘All File Types’ and click the box next to ‘SHP’/ ‘KML’ to search for GIS data

• BC Geological Survey: access to selected maps and databases of the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines
