Reorganization Highlights Expertise in Academic Libraries

The Leddy Library has recently renewed its organizational structure to better support the University of Windsor’s academic mission. We’ve moved from a liaison model — where each department had a single librarian contact — to a functional model, where librarians are organized around core service areas such as teaching, research, collections, and access.

This change was made to enhance collaboration, deepen expertise, and improve visibility of our services. However, we’ve heard from some that this shift has caused confusion about whom to contact for support. We want to reassure you: all the services you’ve relied on are still available, and your library is here to help.

Teaching & Learning Services
Focused on supporting student learning and faculty teaching, this unit provides reference and research help, course-integrated information literacy instruction, workshops, and digital learning tools. Librarians partner with instructors to develop assignments, find and select open educational resources, and integrate information literacy into courses, that lead to students building critical research skills.

Research & Publishing Services
Supporting the full research and publishing lifecycle, this unit offers open access support (including article processing charge discounts), the institutional research repository, research data supports and statistical consulting, knowledge synthesis, and the library’s Open Publishing Service. Faculty members, researchers, and graduate students can access expertise in research data management and bibliometrics and research impact.

Access & Discovery Services
Your point of contact for borrowing, study spaces, and user inquiries. This unit manages book circulation, patron accounts, public computers and printing, the course resources and reserves service and the discovery systems that connect you to library resources. This unit is also home to the library Discovery and Systems team, who manage and administer library technology and systems.

Collections & Licensing Services
This unit ensures the university has access to high-quality information resources that enable the teaching and research on campus, while also preserving materials of cultural and historical significance. Services include collection development, management, and resource sharing. This unit is also home to the Archives and Special Collections team who preserve significant elements of the historical record that connect our university, our community, and our region to the people, organizations, events, and decisions that have shaped who we are and how we live today.
