This summer, the Leddy Library is continuing its refresh and modernization of the Curriculum Resource Centre (CRC), the specialized collection designed to support Education students and faculty.
Our goal is to make the CRC more useful, accessible, welcoming, and aligned with the evolving needs of students and instructors. This work responds to select recommendations from the 2022 academic program review for the Faculty of Education, reinforcing our shared commitment to continuous improvement and academic alignment.
Our Goals
We’re reviewing the collection to remove outdated or rarely used materials, using clear and transparent criteria and incorporating input from students and faculty. This process will also include the development of updated collection development guidelines to ensure we are acquiring resources that effectively support education students in their pre-service studies and in-service activities. By streamlining and modernizing the CRC, we will create a more focused, accessible, and relevant resource that reflects current teaching and learning priorities. We will also move the CRC collection to the third floor of the main building of Leddy Library, positioning it alongside the rest of the education materials in our collection. This new location will create a more cohesive and accessible and allow us to enhance our offerings.
How Did This Begin?
This project began in the Summer of 2023 with a review of the children’s picture books and juvenile literature. The goal of this review was to highlight important classic titles as well as books that support the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Materials, like older posters and image kits, were withdrawn due to low use and deteriorating condition. This summer, we are resuming the project and reviewing the remaining components of the collection, namely the circulating books, reference books, government documents, and kits, with an anticipated completion date of the end of this calendar year.
We Want to Hear From You
Faculty of Education students and faculty will soon receive a survey to share their feedback. Your input from these surveys will help identify materials that remain relevant to your work and guide how we can grow and adapt the collection to better support your needs.Parts of the CRC collection will be temporarily unavailable throughout Summer and Fall 2025 while this work is completed. We appreciate your patience!
The refreshed collection and space will reopen in its new home on the third floor in time for the Winter 2026 term, with updated signage to help you find what you need.
