May has formally been declared national Polish Heritage Month, thanks to the efforts a local member of parliament, Irek Kusmierczyk and Peter Fonseca. It passed unanimously in the House of Commons on February 7, 2024, establishing this May as the first-ever national Polish Heritage Month.
May 3rd is also widely celebrated by Polish people around the world to commemorate the 1791 Constitution, which is a symbol of Poland's aspiration for freedom, democracy and independence.
A Polish Heritage Month display is set up on the main floor of Leddy Library for the month of May.
