After nearly two years of pandemic life and in the midst of another wave, many people are exhausted, overwhelmed, and run down. It makes sense if you're not feeling like yourself right now. It's understandable if you're struggling. You might also be wondering or worrying about what it will be like to return to campus and how to cope with the broader uncertainty and change in our lives. If so, you are not alone.
This year, the Wellness Office is launching Lancers Care | Onward Together: Connecting and Coping through Uncertainty and Change, a virtual campaign focused on the pandemic mental health needs of our campus community and starting the conversation around coping and adjusting to our eventual return to in-person learning. All members of our campus community are invited to join us as we explore how we can best support ourselves and each other while we continue to navigate the ongoing impact of the pandemic.
They will be kicking off the Lancers Care Campaign with Lancers Care Week, January 24th - 28th.
Visit the Student Health, Counselling, and Wellness website for details about Lancers Care Week.
Take some time during Lancers Care Week to practice Mindful Journaling
The Leddy Library has prepared themes and prompts to help you start your journals for each day this week.
Journaling is a mindful practice that is easy and fun! Clear your mind by examining what matters to you most. Help yourself understand your inner thoughts and feelings by shifting to a more positive mindset. Start and end with a couple of mindful breaths to get relaxed and use prompts to start! Most importantly remember that it is the journey that counts, not the end product. Anyone can journal no matter their creative skills.- Day One - Gratitude
Gratitude: Take 5-10 minutes to focus on the positive aspects of your life with Mindful Journaling!
- Day Two - Daily Reflection
Daily Reflection: It's important to take several minutes to sit down, quiet your mind and reflect on your day. What better way to keep yourself organized than to write it all down!
- Day Three - Self Reflection
Self Reflection: Begin your own conversation with Mindful Journaling. While writing, remember to be honest. Allow yourself to gain perspective by exploring your actions and experiences in a safe place. This is a great day to reflect!
- Day Four - Nature
Nature Journaling: Nature is magic. Take a walk or hike outside to awaken your senses. Feel the fresh air fill your lungs and the sound of birds singing in the background. Sketching outdoors allows us to really take a closer look at different species and appreciate their complexity.
- Day Five - Goals
Goals: Journaling can help us navigate our path, just like maps help us navigate our destination. Writing down our goals can help us envision our future plans, make revisions and set realistic timelines. Try journaling every day or a couple of times per week! Reflect on your writings and see how you have progressed.
