Polonia Fund Collections Donation 2017

For the past several years the Leddy Library has partnered with the Polish community of Windsor to build a collection of English language materials reflective of the cultural, historical, and economic history of Poland and the Polish people. Many thanks to the Polonia Centre for its annual collections donation to the Leddy Library, in support of this important collection.

This year, the Leddy Library is delving into the Polish art of reportage, a literary style of nonfiction writing. Also, the library will be highlighting contemporary Polish fiction authors and poets.

Reportage is a contemporary phenomena that gained popularity in its native Poland during the second half of the 19th century. Authors writing in this style focus keenly on the historical and political happenings of societies both at home and abroad without relying on a factual retelling of events. Rather, these authors use intriguing literary devices that blend fact and fiction, with the present merging seamlessly with the past. Common themes include the Holocaust, Communism, and political explorations into countries far from Poland.
