Windsor Open Access Author Fee Portal
Charging authors a publication fee is one common way that open access journals support their operations. In some cases the Leddy library can help to offset these cost of these fees as a result of various content licenses we have with these publishers. This portal provides information for you on where such discounts apply and how to obtain them. If you have any questions please contact your liaison or firstname.lastname@example.org (Mita Williams).
The University of Windsor is a Supporter Member of several OA publishers which means that when as a University of Windsor author you publish in any journal from BioMed Central or SpringerOpen you will receive a 15% discount on the article-processing charge.
Through our subscription to NRC Research Press Journals, University of Windsor authors will receive a 50% fee reduction for choosing the hybrid OA option.
Through our subscription to the RSC, University of Windsor authors are eligible for vouchers providing free OA publishing for their article with RSC. A limited number of vouchers are available per year.
The Leddy Library has a site-license to PNAS and as such authors from the University of Windsor will be assessed a discounted open access fee of $1,150 (compared to our regular fee of $1,500) for a CC BY-NC-ND license. The CC BY license is available for authors whose funders require it, for a fee of $2,200.
For articles accepted for publication in traditional subscription journals, authors can opt-in to pay the open access article processing charge (APC) and have the article made open access on publication through SAGE’s hybrid programme, SAGE Choice. Note that some subscription journals do not offer open access publication through SAGE Choice – a list of these can be found here.
On acceptance of the article, the author should email email@example.com to request open access for their article. The author should include the following information: Article ID, Article title, and Journal.
The author should also quote the institution that they are affiliated with and that they are eligible for the CRKN 40% discount.
The open access administrator will then check the institution against the list of CRKN members and will send the author the contributor form to sign. On returning the form, the author should also provide the billing information for the invoice. Once the form is returned and the author is verified as eligible for the CRKN discount, an invoice will be generated for 40% off the APC for that journal. The standard APC for SAGE Choice is $3,000 USD. With the discount applied this will be $1,800 USD (plus tax). A list of journals with non-standard APC rates can be found here.
University of Windsor authors receive a 10% discount in Article Processing Charges (APCs), book processing charges (BPCs), and Chapter Processing Charges (CPCs). Authors will be prompted during the last step of submission to determine if they are eligible for the discount unless submitting from a computer within the University of Windsor campus.
Authors affiliated with the University of Windsor can receive a 25% discount on article processing charges for "ACS Author Choice Open Access Services". At the time of submission, please identify yourself as being affiliated to the University of Windsor in order to qualify for this discount. Manuscripts submitted between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018 are eligible for this discount.
