When Archives, Rare Books and Special Collections manuscripts and books are chosen for exhibition the following criteria must be met:
- The physical condition of each artifact must be of a stable nature. Due consideration will be given to provide each artifact with suitable mechanical support. Items will not be bent, crushed, or distorted in any way. Nothing will be done to devalue the worth of the object.
- The physical environment of the exhibition area must meet the standards of the permanent storage areas. The same standards concerning security, lighting, humidity and temperature within the storage areas are to be maintained within the exhibition area.
