Finding Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, and Handbooks

Encyclopedia, dictionaries, and handbooks offer another way to find introductory information about a topic. Some of these resources are available online and some are available in print from the library.
 

  • A Dictionary of Chemistry
    Covers all aspects of chemistry, from physical chemistry to biochemistry, with broad coverage in several areas, including nuclear magnetic resonance, polymer chemistry, nanotechnology and graphene, and absolute configuration.
     
  • McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Chemistry
    Also available in print QD5 .M357 1997 (West Building – Basement
    Provides a compendium of 8000 terms that are central to chemistry and related fields of science and technology. Focused on the areas of analytical chemistry, general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and spectroscopy.
     
  • Oxford Dictionary of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
    Also available in print QD415.A25 94 2000 (West Building – Basement)
    Provides a comprehensive survey of modern biochemistry and molecular biology with definitions of terms from the fields of Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Systems Biology, and Toxicology. Entries include details of biochemical substances and the processes in which they are involved, methods and concepts in molecular biology, and definitions of biochemical symbols and abbreviations.
