Thanks to the support of the President’s Office and the grand success of last year’s “Why Humanities” Week, we are very excited to announce that Humanities Week will take place September 12-16th! In a popular repeat from last year’s event, students will have an opportunity to win a semester of free tuition by submitting their take on What do the Humanities Mean to You? Entrants are asked to produce a video, essay, poem or proclamation outlining the importance and value of the humanities. Submissions are welcome through September 15.

Humanities Research Group Schedule of Events 2016-2017
Our 2016-2017 theme is “Provocative Bodies: Interrupting, Disturbing & Challenging the Mainstream.” Our programming features troubling, persistent people whose ideas challenge our assumptions, from members of our university community to movers and shakers across the county, including writer Thomas King, lawyer James Lockyer and playwright Judith Thompson. There will be talks on capital punishment, artificial intelligence, First Nations identity, disability and performance, archiving queer culture, advocating for the marginalized and transforming Canadian media culture. (We are even co-sponsoring an interdisciplinary Zombie Apocalypse Conference in October!)
Our season opens with Humanities Week, including Dr. King’s talk on THE INCONVENIENT INDIAN, a special guest appearance by the ORPHAN BLACK actor (and U/Windsor alum) Kevin Hanchard, the 2nd annual “WHY Humanities?” competition and “Pizza with the Prez” awards night, an interactive “Conduct Us” performance with the WSO, a student roundtable on “Coming of Age in Windsor” and lunchtime debates in the Humanities Café.
These –and all HRG events throughout the year—are free and open to the public. We invite you to listen, ask questions, share refreshments and exchange ideas.
